Wednesday was more of the same. The correct date for the Bye Bye Birdie Slide-Tape Show is Monday, August 18th according to Jack Wheaton of the Fine Arts Center. Were you counted for the census for the Town of Tryon? If you were not counted for the 1980 census, either you did not receive a census form or you did not have a census representative visit your household. It is important to the Town of Tryon (and to other local municipalities) that all persons within the city limits be counted. Federal and State programs available to municipal ities and also counties are based upon these population figures. For more information and forms contact the Tryon Town Hall if you feel that you were not counted. Huricane Allen, one of the most dangerous storms ever in the eastern Caribbean is causing wind and flood damage in areas where it hits or just misses. It had maximum winds of 170 miles per hour. Earle Elementary School Library plans for the upcoming Youth Football Pro gram will be presented by the Youth Sport Council. The program will be for 3rd, 4th, Sth, and 6th grade children. All parents are encouraged to attend, and any persons interest ed in coaching are also asked to be present. Any children in the area are welcome. Polk Central Patriot Football Schedule The Polk Central Patriots under Coach Ken Brumley open their 1980 football season August 29th at Mitchell. Clouds Buy The Daniel Co. Mr and Mrs. Russell Cloud of Tryon have bought The Daniel Co. in Landrum from A. Floyd Daniel. The sale was effective August 1st The Daniel Co. was the first permanent store in Landrum and was established in 1894 by Charles Hampton Daniel and his brother-in-law, Frank Ezell. The store was located then near the present depot. For many years it was a general store selling almost everything. Mr. Daniel bought Mr. Ezell’s interest and in 1914 moved to the present location and took into partnership his brother, Noah H Daniel. Daniel Bros, continued as a general store. Charles Daniel passed away in 1928 and his widow bought the interest of Noah H. Daniel and operated the business until joined by her son, A. Floyd Daniel. Mrs. Daniel died in 1962. It is now a modern ready-to-wear clothing and shoe store. Mr. and Mrs. Cloud stated that they plan to continue the operation as it is now and will add new lines which they feel are needed for this area The Clouds stated that they look forward to serving Polk County and upper Spartanburg and Greenville counties The Clouds moved to Tryon in January of 1960 and have been active in many community activities. Meet Aug. 12th The Region C Employment and Training Advisory Committee will meet at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 12, in the conference room of the Isother mal Planning and Development Commission, Simpson Building, 101 West Court Street, Ruther fordton. Items on the agenda include recommendations of program operators of FY 81 programs, Title IV Youth Programs, and Title II-C programs. EXECUTIVE HOUSEKEEPER Mrs Marilyn H. Bradley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Horne of the Green Creek Community has recently accept ed the position of Executive Housekeeper at Margaret R. Pardee Memorial Hospital in Hendersonville. Mrs. Bradley is a graduate of Green Creek Elementary School Polk Central High School and is certified by the National Execu tive Housekeepers Association after having graduated from a 320 hour program for Executive Housekeepers at Forsyth Memorial Hospital in Winston- Salem. She is presently working on a degree in Business Administration at Blue Ridge Technical Institute. Mrs. Bradlev has been employed at Margaret R Pardee Hospital for the D ast five years.
